Moving image analysis has been done on so-called edited works that have been edited, but I would like to present a method to analyze many moving images that are stored without editing.
In the existing literature, the moving image is rarely investigated for its meaning as well as the recorded contents. At least one of the causes thereof is thought to be content redundancy.
In this presentation, we use the ‘shot’ as the minimum unit of analysis and investigate the possibility of moving images by development of digital archiving tools.
We consider this attempt to have the potential to be called “digital fieldwork”.
We also find that the moving image has the potential to become a new index, or “deep index”, for research materials that have been accumulated so far.
