科学がわかるたのしさを伝えてくれる岩波科学教育映画は，制作後50年を経ても学校および市民のための科学教育に力を発揮してくれる。科学の原理や基本法則は，時代を経ても変わらない。それを初学者に教えるとき、科学の方法（仮説・実験）を取り入れ，視聴者を惹きつけるストーリーでできた科学教育映画は，現代の科学教育の課題への道を開く手段となりうる。映像と科学教育の研究会では，16ｍｍフィルムで制作された映画をデジタル化し，活用への道を開いてきた。さらに映像と視聴者とをつなぐコミュニケーションの工夫を重ね成果をあげている。
